7 of the Best Restaurants in Medellin

We like to dine out, and we have found that Colombia has amplified our desire and ability to do this. There are so many incredible restaurants… especially in Medellin and the El Poblado neighborhood. Beyond that, the cost of a top-end dining experience is a fraction of the cost we are used to. Also, if you purchase high quality ingredients at the grocery stores, you can easily end up paying nearly as much (if not more) to make a meal at home.  So we decided to eat out a lot and we found the best restaurants in Medellin.

What Does a Meal Out Cost?

Our most expensive meal out, including four cocktails, two fresh fruit juices, two bottles of water, a sashimi appetizer, incredible main courses for all four of us, and two desserts, came out to be $100. At one of the highest-rated restaurants in town. Most of the time, we ended up paying somewhere between $25 and $50 for similar lunches or dinners.

Here are some of the best restaurants in Medellin we’ll think back on fondly…

Pergamino Cafe – ☕️

We love coffee! Since we’ve been traveling, good coffee has been hard to find. There have been a few places that have hit the spot but nothing that has been stellar.

A coffee shop to us is much more than just a delicious latte. It also has a great atmosphere, appetizing food of some sort (pastry or other), and of course excellent coffee.

Pergamino checks all of the boxes. We were even able to buy their coffee beans, have them grind it, and make it ourselves at home. The best coffee in town!

Oci.Mde – 🐠 🥩 🍗 🐖

The Oci is a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner with high quality food. We went a couple of times and enjoyed some yummy pork dishes, steak, chicken and fish. The cocktails were good too, even at 1pm! 🤗 Make a reservation, and enjoy the experience.

Bonhomia – 🍕

Levi is not too adventurous when it comes to dining out. It is usually hamburgers, pizza, pasta or steak. Bonhomia gets top marks for their pizza! It has a thin crust and delicious taste. Tough to beat the ambiance as well.

Mistura – 🍣

If you are interested in sushi, Mistura is a great option. Even with my allergy to avocados (yes it’s a weird one), I was able to find some amazing rolls. My favorite? Guila al fuego. Look, it’s on fire! If you like eel, this one is incredible!

Bogota Beer Company – BBC – 🍺

Good beer can be hard to find in Latin America. Maybe that is just a dated opinion left over from our time in Panama around 2010. When we were in Ecuador recently, we were pleasantly surprised to find some great microbrews. Colombia has been much more lager focused but BBC has some good options if you are looking for something that isn’t a lager.

Vibe Donuts – 🍩

Who doesn’t like donuts? We walked past Vibe Donuts the first day in town and knew we were in trouble. I mean look at these donuts.

They don’t just look good either, they are by far the best donuts we’ve had outside the States. They are even near the top of the list for tastiest donuts we have ever tried!

They didn’t always open super early, so this may become your mid-morning snack, lunch, or afternoon treat. Oh and you can get your laundry cleaned here too. 😂

Bunker Burger – 🍔

Bunker Burger is not in El Poblado, like the rest of the restaurants on this list BUT I had to mention it. These burgers are worth the extra effort. If you are in Laureles or near it, you should go to Bunker Burger.

We only ordered through Rappi, which is a quick food delivery service in Colombia, so I can’t speak to the vibe of the place. The burgers though, WOW! The best burger in Medellin by far! Not even close. No place in any of our travels outside the States comes close to Bunker Burger… again, Levi eats a ton of burgers, so we’ve put in the research on this one. 😃 Sorry, no pictures either. I ate it too quickly. Nom Nom. 🤤

Summary

This list of the best restaurants in Medellin should get you started while you are staying there. With so many different restaurant options, it’s nice to be able to narrow it down as you begin to dip your toes into the vast and vibrant El Poblado food scene.
