Snow Tubing In Bozeman, MT

A few years ago my mom bought my boys snow tubes for Christmas. Until then, I hadn’t gone snow tubing in years and I was sadly missing out. Snow tubes help you zip down the hill with ease and if you have little ones that want to go slower, you can go far distances on smaller hills too.

Unless you are staying in Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, there’s only one place where you can go snow tubing in Bozeman, MT if you don’t have your own snow tubes.

Yellowstone Alliance Adventures

Just south of town, near the South Cottonwood trailhead, is Yellowstone Alliance Adventures (YAA). Normally it is a Christian summer camp and event space, but they also hold special events at their facilities.

One of these special activities is snow tubing. They have two different events for snow tubing. One they call Winter Fun Day’s Snow Tubing which is during the day and the other is Cosmic Tubing when you tube in dark with the hill lit up with special lights.

You have to book and get your 2 hour time slot in advance. They only have specific dates in January and February set aside for tubing, and they sell a limited amount of tickets each day. Book your tubing tickets at YAA here!

Rent Snow Tubes

If you prefer to find your own sledding hill, you can rent snow tubes in Bozeman too. The best place to rent a snow tube is at Big Boys Toys Rentals. Their snow tubes are perfect for gliding down a snowy hill with their hard bottom sliding surface and sturdy tote strap to easily drag the tube back up the hill.

Buying Sleds

Buying a plastic or foam sled is another option if you don’t want to rent a snow tube as you can buy one pretty cheaply. Also no one rents normal sleds.

You can buy a sled from Target with prices starting at $13. Bob Wards also carries a variety of different snow sleds as well.  These two stores are right next to each other, so you can easily find the perfect sled without driving all over town!

Best Hills – Sledding In Bozeman

There are a variety of sledding hill options scattered around the Bozeman area. All of them are great options for sledding in Bozeman.

Dinosaur Park – Gallatin County Regional Park

The closest sledding hill to where we lived is the one we visited the most. It is known as the Dinosaur Park to the locals but on Google Maps you will see it as Gallatin County Regional Park.

It is a pretty epic hill that is perfect for everyone. You can sled off both sides and there is ample space for everyone. If you want a gentler slope you can sled on the far end of the hill.

You should be able to easily find parking in the parking lot off of Oak, near the corner of Ferguson Ave.

Hyalite Canyon

If there isn’t a lot of snow in town or you want to immerse yourself in the wintery forest, head to Hyalite Canyon for sledding in Bozeman. Many people speak highly of going to the Langohr Campground, which can be lots of fun, but it is not the only option in Hyalite.

We loved the hill near the History Rock Trailhead. Follow the path straight for a short time to reach this exciting sledding hill.

For smaller kids, the hills next to the reservoir parking lot are good fun! For a longer run for older kids, drive a little further to the pullout parking area on the dam. The hill on the north side of the road is fantastic.

Another option for the explorers out there is to hike down the trail that follows the reservoir. Park at the reservoir parking lot and the trail starts by the pavilion. There are a few hills on that trail that are fun for sledding!

Snowfill Recreation Area

On the north side of town, Snowfill Recreation Area is a great spot for sledding in Bozeman. This huge park has many different hills to choose from and beautiful views of the Gallatin Valley.  It is also a dog park, so bring your furry friends.

Peets Hill

One of the most famous hills for sledding in Bozeman is Peets Hill which is located right in the city. You can park at the public library and take the sleds on the trail behind the parking lot. Head up the hill and then speed down.

Due to its popularity and location the snow can get really packed which makes it a very fast hill. If the hill feels too scary, head over to the park next door, Lindley, for more peaceful hills.

Lindley Park

Lindley Park is a perfect spot for younger or more cautious sledders. It is also right in town next to Peets Hill which makes access super easy for anyone visiting. There are plenty of nice hills in the park, so walk around and find the perfect spot for you and your little ones.
