13 Of The Best Places To Stay In Kotor With Kids

In my many years of traveling, I know finding quality hotels for families, especially in Europe, can be a challenge. After traveling with my kids full-time and most recently the last few years through Europe, I now know what to look for. I did some digging and found the best places to stay in Kotor for families.

Not all of the hotels are in the town of Kotor, but all are in the Boka Bay or Bay of Kotor area. I think there are some advantages to staying in hotels in Kotor, and there advantages to staying in another small town. This will all depend on your personal preference.

I also understand how annoying it can be to have to search hundreds of listings to try to find a place that looks nice, is the right price, is in a good location, and has the sleeping arrangements you desire. So, I have done the work for you. I hope it makes your planning much easier.

rainbow over the Bay of Kotor from the balcony of our Kotor hotel - places to stay in Kotor

When we visited Kotor we stayed in Strp, which is not a town at all. There were a few houses there and that was about it. While it was nice to be away from the hustle of Kotor and have a private swimming area, it also was limiting.

Before our family traveled to Montenegro, I didn’t understand that if you stay off the beaten path, you really need to drive everywhere and the parking can be really hard to find. This made a quick trip here or there a bit frustrating.

Also, my husband was working a lot and it made it more difficult for the kids and I to go out during the day and explore. Honestly, I couldn’t even find the listing to our hotel, so I don’t think it is still in business. It was an okay place to stay, but there are better ones out there.

Where To Stay In Kotor

There are many little towns dotted around Kotor. After visiting in the summer of 2024, we explored many of these areas around the Bay of Kotor. Each of them is a little different, and knowing a little bit about them will help you decide which area to base yourself.

Here are my top picks for areas to stay in the Bay of Kotor.

Stay In Kotor

Kotor is the main attraction in this area and there are many places to stay in Kotor. If you want to stay in a location with the most convenience, this is it. You will find the biggest grocery stores, numerous places to eat, lots of things to do and the town is really cute.

Also because it has the top places to see in the area, all the buses and tours start from here. However, with all these advantages comes some disadvantages.

The main disadvantage is that it is the most crowded area. Cruise ships park right there and day trippers fill the city walls. Kotor can be very pleasant in the mornings and evenings though!

Stay In Perast

Perast, Montenegro from the water - Kotor itinerary

There are some really nice hotels in Perast. If you are okay spending a little more, want to be off the beaten path just a little, and stay in one of the most romantic and historic locations, choose Perast.

This stunning little town was one of our favorites to visit. The street down by the water holds many restaurants with patios right on the sea. The town’s small streets contain a charm you can’t find in some of the other villages.

The downside is that parking can be a bit tricky here, so you will most likely have to pay extra for that. Just keep that in mind.

Stay In Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi is an interesting town in the Bay of Kotor. If you want to stay off the beaten path, but still have access to amenities and things to do, it is a wonderful option.

Do keep in mind that if you want to spend a lot of time in Kotor, it is one of the furthest towns away. That makes it not very convenient for exploring Kotor, but there are other attractions in the area to admire.

In regards to where to stay in Herceg Novi, there is a good mix of luxury and mid-range hotels to choose from. I even have one on the list that would be fantastic for a large family and fits 6!

Stay On The Luštica Peninsula

The Luštica Peninsula is a nice location to base yourself too. There are two very different places to consider.

The first one is Rose. Rose is one of the cutest little towns I have ever seen with some really nice pebble beaches. Despite that, only base yourself here if you want to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet. There’s not much to do and it isn’t easy to get other places.

Luštica Bay is a fresh, new area with luxury amenities. The road out to Luštica Bay was the best we saw our whole trip. The town itself isn’t as charming as the others because it is new and modern, but it has a level of comfort that you can’t find in other locations.

You are also right next to one of the only sandy beaches in the area. Probably one of the best areas to stay with young kids that love the beach.

Stay In Tivat

The one town that we didn’t get to visit that would also be a good location to stay in was Tivat. I haven’t added any hotels in Tivat to this post because I don’t know the area.

However, it is a very convenient location to Kotor and the Luštica Peninsula, so if you find a place you like there, go for it!

Family-Friendly Hotels In Kotor And The Bay Of Kotor

Okay now on to the hotels and places to stay in Kotor. I found all these amazing recommendations after scouring the internet. I look for hotel and apartment set ups that are good for families traveling with kids, appealing decor, high ratings and cleanliness.

There are a mix of price ranges to fit any budget, except backpackers. I figure if you are traveling with kids, your budget is a little higher than hostel pricing.

Kotor Hotels

Kotor clock tower right in the sea gate - places to stay in Kotor

Here are some of the best hotels in Kotor for families.

$$ – Bajova Kula Luxury Residences – This beautiful hotel actually sits between Kotor and Perast. I love the look and style of these apartments which have my favorite room set-ups for kids, two twin beds.

The rooms come with balconies that have stunning views of the bay and a very nice area to relax by the water. The only downside is that you will need to drive to get anywhere, as it is not right in a town.

$$ – Old Town Sea Gate Apartment – For a good priced apartment right in the city walls of Kotor, look no further. This 3-bedroom place is comfortable and set up very nicely for families.

There is no parking, but Kotor is the easiest of the locations to find it. If you are visiting Kotor without a car, they have a convenient airport shuttle.

$$ – Stanisic Family Apartments – This stunning apartment is located outside of Kotor’s city walls, but still within walking distance to old town. Giving you convenience without the annoyance. There’s also free parking!

$$$ – Old Town Lux – Another comfortable and spacious apartment right in old town Kotor. You will find cleanliness and gracious hosts here.

In addition the apartment has 3 bedrooms and 2 toilets! I can’t stress how hard it is to find more than 1 bathroom in Europe. Please note that you will need to be able to climb 3 flights of stairs to access Old Town Lux.

Perast Hotels

Moving on to hotels in Perast. This charming town is a little more pricey, but I did find one place under €200 euros a night in off-season and only a little over €200 in the summer. Hint. It’s the first one!

$$ – Perast Venetian Jewel House – This beautiful house offers stunning views in a historic building for a great price. And to top it all off they have free on-site parking, which is unheard of in Perast. You will need to be prepared for stairs though.

$$$ – Hotel Admiral – This spacious, 18th century mansion is not normally the style I look for in a hotel, but with its modern amenities it is a wonderful option in Perast. The waterfront terrace is an added bonus.

I also like that there are a few different room options depending on how you like to fit into rooms. You can find a queen with a sofa bed option all the way up to a 3-bedroom apartment with balcony and sea view.

The reviews for Hotel Admiral are also top notch and breakfast is included.

$$$ – Conte Hotel & Restaurant – This hotel is simply stunning. It is right in the center of Perast, has a pool, and breakfast on the water is included. There are a few other properties scattered throughout the town too.

You will need to pay for parking at the parking lots outside of town. Pick-up service is available, so you don’t have to carry your luggage in though. There are a few different room options depending on your budget and what size room you’d like too.

Herceg Novi Hotels

Herceg Novi from the water

After researching hotels in Herceg Novi, I was surprised by the quality of places to stay which range in price from beautiful and affordable, to very expensive but oh so amazing!

$$ – Savina Beachfront Oasis – This is the property I wish I would have booked on our trip to Montenegro. Just look at its modern design, that incredible balcony with mountain and bay views, and it has 2 bedrooms with a great set-up for a family of 4.

In addition, it is in a fantastic location in Herceg Novi, on the beach and the main promenade, and has free parking or an airport shuttle for an additional charge. All of this for a pretty great price, especially during shoulder and off-season.

$$$ – Villa My Soul – If you are traveling with a big group or have a large family, Villa My Soul is an amazing option. There are two modern villas, one that fits 6 people and the other that fits 10. With the villa you can play at the pool, relax in a hot tub and park for free.

For the size of the place, the price is very affordable, even in high season. It is secluded, which can be really nice, but also means you need to drive everywhere. Thankfully, it is not too far from Herceg Novi.

$$$$ – Lazure Hotel & Marina – Okay, okay, I know it’s pricey, but wow, just wow. This hotel is so beautiful, right on the water with a private beach, spa and pool. Everything is new and modern too. If you can afford it, this is a wonderful luxury hotel in Herceg Novi.

Luštica Peninsula Hotels and Resorts

The Luštica Peninsula is a beautiful area in the Bay of Kotor. Luštica Bay is not necessarily a location I would go out of my way to visit, but would be a very nice place to stay. The hotels in Luštica Bay are modern, new and comfortable.

Rose on the other hand is at the very tip of the peninsula and is super charming. It is out of the way, but if you want seclusion, I found one property that would be perfect for a family.

Luštica Bay Resort Hotels

$$$ – Luštica Bay Marina Village – This luxury property is stunning. You will find an outdoor pool and many different sized apartments to fit your family and budget. It is also right on the water, and you can easily walk to a private beach.

$$$ – Luštica Bay Centrale – This comfortable and beautifully decorated property has a 2-bedroom option that would be perfect for a family. In addition, there is also an outdoor pool, private beach area, spa and terrace.

Rose Hotel

Rose, Montenegro - one of the less crowded European summer destinations

$$ – Agape Rose Hotel – Agape Rose Hotel is one of the only hotels in Rose, that I found, that has a family room. In addition, it has a pool and a really nice deck area overlooking beautiful views. You will will also find free parking, a very friendly staff and a quiet secluded area by some pretty beaches.
