Last December we took a week-long trip to Zell am See and had a fantastic vacation. During this trip we tasted some delicious food, so I wanted to share the best restaurants in Zell am See that we found with you.

During this winter trip we were on somewhat of a budget, so none of the following restaurants in Zell am See are high end. These casual dining options are still very tasty.
We also explored and skied the areas of Kaprun and Saalbach-Hinterglemm, so a few of the restaurant options are in those areas. Some of our favorite places to eat were actually in the Saalbach area, which is about a 20 minute drive from Zell am See.
When we visiting, it was December, and the small Christmas Market was also happening. One evening we went to try some treats there. We ate some tasty soup, sandwiches and the kids had crepes!
I always love food at a Christmas Market. It’s one of the best parts besides, the gluhwein and the Christmas decorations. One note, if you do eat at the Christmas Market, you will need cash to pay for everything.
I’m sure there are many other fantastic restaurants in the Zell am See area, but these few are sure to please. We can’t stop keep thinking about them!

Mangia! Pizzeria Napoletana

Mangia! Pizzeria Napoletana is our favorite by far! We actually stumbled upon it by accident. We were planning on dining somewhere else, and we switched up our plans last minute.
We saw rave reviews of Mangia! and decided to see if we could get in. Mangia! is in the Saalbach area and was about a 25 minute drive from our Airbnb. Before heading all the way there, we gave them a call. They reserved us a table an hour from our call which worked out perfectly.
The vibe of the restaurant is rustic, modern which was very cozy and inviting. Mangia! serves authentic Italian dishes but the real star, in my opinion, are the pizzas.
I ordered the Mangia pizza and it was incredible. I really liked the mix of toppings and the seeds in the crust. It gave it a nice crunch.
Mike and Levi also got pizzas and we all agreed that they were some of the best we have ever had. Isaac had the lasagna and he loved that too.
You really can’t go wrong with Mangia! Pizzeria, so book a reservation for your time in Zell am See!

La Brasserie Traube
La Brasserie Traube is one of the Zell am See restaurants that was high on our list to try. We had read such high praise and wanted to try the steaks and burgers on the menu. They also have a Thai food section that looked delightful. If you are visiting with kids, this is one of the few restaurants that has a kids menu too.
Sadly, we missed out on trying La Brasserie Traube on our Zell am See trip, but it is on the list for next time. I wanted to mention it even though we haven’t personally experienced it because of how highly it is spoken about.
There are two areas of the restaurant, a modern area and the cozy historic vault. We have heard that the vault is the best area to be seated! Try to get your reservation there!

Asia Royal

Asia Royal is another one of the best restaurants in Zell am See. If you like Asian food, you need to go here. We liked it so much, we went twice!
The casual atmosphere, the tasty food and the welcoming staff really make this Zell am See restaurant special. We dined here the first night we arrived because we were really missing Asian food. We don’t have many good Chinese restaurants where we live.
Asia Royal was right down the road from our Airbnb which made it very convenient to walk to. We were seated right away and never needed a reservation either of the times we dined.
We tried a variety of dishes there but our favorites were the crispy duck and sweet and sour chicken. They also have sushi options but we didn’t personally try them.

Maisalm
If you are skiing in Saalbach, plan your lunch around a visit to Maisalm. I don’t have any pictures from our lunch there, which is surprising because it is in such a beautiful setting and the food was really good.
You can find Maisalm by taking the Kohlmaisbahn gondola up the mountain and getting off at the halfway point.
We initially stopped at Maisalm because the kids were cold and wanted a hot chocolate to warm up. As we sipped our hot chocolate and cappuccinos and took in the gorgeous views, we looked over the menu and decided to just grab lunch.
This turned out to be a great decision! We all ordered some crispy, wood-oven pizza and we were delighted. It was perfectly baked and very flavorful.
You will also find Viennese schnitzel, roast pork and apple strudel on the menu!

Gipfel Restaurant

Gipfel Restaurant is located at the Top of Salzburg. The food itself was just okay, but the view. Amazing! That is why you go.
If you are visiting the Top of Salzburg viewpoint or skiing at Kitzsteinhorn for the day, choose Gipfel restaurant for lunch. You will find a cafeteria style restaurant where you pick and choose what you want to eat and bring it to your table.
When we were there it was very busy, so I would suggest finding a table and then going to get your food. And if you don’t go for the food, at least go to warm up with a coffee or beer and enjoy the remarkable view.

MMK
The last of the best restaurants in Zell am See that I am going to mention is MMK. MMK stands for Made Magic Kitchen and is a street food restaurant in the Zell am See Süd. This family-run restaurant has a couple of tables outside, but it is best as a takeaway option.
We ordered the fried chicken bucket with fries and the Shawarma king sandwich. Everything was so juicy and flavorful. And there was so much food too. We had plenty of leftovers for the next day.
For a quick and easy meal MMK is a great restaurant in Zell am See to try.
Note: MMK only takes cash, so be sure to have some on you. If you don’t, like I didn’t, there’s an ATM down the road where you can take some out.
Final Thoughts On The Best Places To Eat In Zell Am See

While this is not a comprehensive list of the best restaurants in Zell am See, it is a good start. Mangia! Pizzeria, Maisalm and Asia Royal are all places we think about regularly.
The quality of food can’t be beat and the views and atmosphere at Maisalm and Gipfel Restaurant made me want to stay a little longer. Next time, I can’t wait to try Brassiere Traube and write a personal review.
If you go to Brassiere Traube while visiting Zell am See, let me know how it was in the comments!
