However, after looking at the logistics of figuring out the transportation there, it didn’t feel worth it. So we went on the hunt for a Siena winery and found La Lastra Winery!

Our Tour Experience

Since my friend and I were wine tasting in Tuscany without a car, we initially struggled to find a winery tour that wouldn’t consume our entire day or blow our budget. We had originally booked a tour in Montalcino. After researching the logistics, we realized it would require over an hour of travel time and multiple transit connections to get there.
When we discovered La Lastra with its outstanding reviews and proximity to Siena, we knew we had to try it out.
We arrived a few minutes early and were immediately charmed by an adorable and curious cat who seemed to be the unofficial greeter. Once we entered the beautiful courtyard, the staff welcomed us with complimentary rosé while we waited for the other members of our intimate group to arrive.
The tour began with a leisurely stroll toward the vineyards. Our guide shared the fascinating history of the winery and provided insights into the broader Chianti region. We also learned about the significant adaptations they’ve made due to climate change which was really interesting.

Along the way, we also discovered the olive trees scattered throughout the vineyard that produce their incredibly flavorful olive oil.
After stopping for some mandatory photo opportunities among the vines, we headed to the cool cellar.
In the cellar we received a thorough and engaging presentation about their winemaking process. The guide’s expertise really shone throughout the whole tour.
The stroll concluded in their charming dining area, where we sampled their exceptional wines paired with a delicious small meal. Every single item we tasted, from the rich olive oil and perfectly crafted wines to the homemade ravioli and sun-dried tomatoes, was absolutely decadent.
I left feeling completely satisfied and already planning my return visit.
