What Is The Best Time To Visit St Louis?
Every season brings something special to St Louis and really depends on what you are looking for in a visit. Here’s what to expect during each time of year.
Peak Season (June – August)
Summer brings the warmest weather and longest days, making it ideal for outdoor activities like Forest Park exploration, baseball games, and lake trips. However, this is also the busiest and most expensive time to visit, with crowded attractions and higher hotel rates. The heat and humidity can be intense, especially for families with young children.
Shoulder Season (April – May & September – October)
Spring and fall offer the perfect sweet spot for visiting St Louis with comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds, and moderate pricing. If you have read any of my other travel guides, you will know that this is my favorite time to travel!
April through May showcases beautiful blooming flowers at the Botanical Garden, while September and October provide stunning fall foliage throughout Forest Park and surrounding areas. These months offer ideal weather for walking between downtown attractions and outdoor activities.
Off Season (November – March)
To save a few dollars, consider visiting in the off season. Winter months bring the lowest hotel rates and smallest crowds, plus special seasonal attractions like the magical Garden Glow at the Missouri Botanical Garden from November through January.

While it holds the distinction of being the smallest National Park, don’t let that fool you. Timing your visit can really enhance the experience. From November 15 through January 3, the Garden Glow transforms the space into a magical winter wonderland with stunning light displays that are absolutely breathtaking.
For those who prefer natural beauty, plan your visit from March to early June during peak flowering season when the gardens are at their most spectacular.

The sheer creativity and imagination that went into creating this space is mind-blowing. Imagine repurposed architectural elements transformed into climbable art installations.

The thick, rich custard is served in creative “concretes.” Think like a Dairy Queen blizzard but better. It is so thick they can be turned upside down without spilling.

The location’s proximity to Forest Park makes it the perfect reward after a day of exploring the zoo, museums, or trails. There’s nothing quite like cooling down with a refreshing concrete on a warm summer day.

Ted Drewes is one of those classic St Louis experiences that you simply can’t skip. Even if you’re not usually a big ice cream person, the frozen custard here is something special.

Please Note: In March 2025, Purina Farms Visitor’s Center was sadly hit by a tornado. This has caused them to temporarily close their doors. It is still possible to catch a fun dog show though! There will be free performances at Union Station until September 28, 2025.
