Where To Stay In Bozeman: Beautiful Hotels And Family-Friendly Homes

The beautiful mountain town of Bozeman has so much to offer visitors and like most locations, some of their lodging is better than others. I have put together a fantastic list of where to stay in Bozeman. These options include some of the best and beautiful hotels, comfortable and spacious vacation rentals and a stunning lodge in a picturesque setting.

Between 2016 and 2022, I called Bozeman my home. I really loved living here. We made some great friends and we loved the casual, laidback lifestyle. While I worked at Montana State University, I helped arrange hotel stays for speakers and got to know the Bozeman hotel scene fairly well.

I also enjoyed an incredible staycation in one of the hotels that I have listed below. I have always liked this boutique hotel, but after this personal experience it moved to the top of the list. It is really one of the best places to stay in Bozeman, MT.

Best Areas Of Bozeman To Base Yourself

There are really no bad neighborhoods to stay in Bozeman, MT. The city itself is very safe and it isn’t too big, so getting around won’t take too long. Some locations are a little better than others depending on what you are looking for.

Downtown Bozeman

Overall, downtown Bozeman is where to stay in Bozeman. It is the most convenient location to be if you want to be near restaurants and shopping. You will also find the best hotels in Bozeman here.

Being downtown also means that you will most likely be paying a little more for your hotel though. The least expensive hotels, which aren’t necessarily the best, are located near the highway and a little outside of downtown.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the cheaper hotels, but if you are traveling on a budget, they will be fine. When we visited Bozeman for the first time, we stayed in the Motel 6. We were definitely on a budget. It is not a nice hotel, but we lived!

North Bozeman

In the northern area of Bozeman, you can find some of those budget hotels I mentioned above. However if you go a little further North of the highway towards the Bridgers, you will find some nice neighborhoods with beautiful vacation rentals.

This area of town is where to stay in Bozeman if you are looking to ski Bridger Bowl, and still want access to the restaurant scene in Bozeman.

In the summer, this part of town is very close to some nice hiking trails in the Bridger mountains too.

South Bozeman

a wintery scene a sunset in the Southside of Bozeman

The only reason I can think of to stay in South Bozeman is to be near Montana State University. There is no easy road that connects down to Big Sky, so it isn’t really a nice in between area.

One exception would be if you can find a nice vacation rental near Hyalite reservoir. That area is really nice for cross country skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer.

Belgrade

The Mint - Steakhouse in Belgrade, Montana - one of the best restaurants near Bozeman

Belgrade is the next door neighbor to Bozeman and where the airport is located. I personally wouldn’t base myself in Belgrade. There’s not much to do there and you will most likely be spending much of your time in Bozeman or Big Sky.

There are a few nice restaurants in Belgrade. Try the Mint. If you really want to be close to the airport, it could be an option too.

Four Corners

Four Corners isn’t much, but the location is actually really nice if want to split your time between Bozeman and Big Sky. It is very convenient to get to the airport from here as well.

While you aren’t super close to one of any location, you are in the middle of many great spots. Choose this area if you are looking to ski Big Sky and want to avoid paying the high prices of staying there.

Best Hotels In Bozeman

Now that you know a little bit about how Bozeman is laid out, let’s dive into where to stay in Bozeman, Montana. This list includes everything from the fanciest hotel, to kid friendly hotels in Bozeman. I have also included a couple of great vacation rentals that would be perfect for larger families or groups.

The Lark

The Lark - Downtown Bozeman

The Lark is my choice for the best overall hotel in Bozeman. There are many reasons for this. I stayed in The Lark after my lovely husband gifted me a staycation there for my birthday/Mother’s Day.

The Lark is a boutique hotel in a great location, right on Main Street. They recently added more rooms, so there is even more to love. I stayed in the “old” section of the hotel and it was still clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated.

In addition to the great location and comfy rooms, there is an outdoor fire pit area that is perfect for relaxing and people watching on Main Street. Connected to the hotel is Treeline coffee, which has very delicious coffee and there’s even an Airstream ice cream truck on site.

Everyone there was super friendly to me and the price is reasonable for what you get, which I can’t say the same for some other downtown hotels.

Note: Due to it being right downtown, you will need to self-park or valet your car, as they don’t have their own private parking. It is $15 a night to self-park in the Bozeman parking garage or $30 a night for the valet.

The Lark is where to stay in Bozeman for convenience, price and quality.

The Armory

One of the newest places to stay in Bozeman, MT is The Armory. The original building was built in 1941 to house the Bozeman National Guard. Recently it has been completely renovated and reopened its doors as the Kimpton Armory Hotel.

As the tallest building in Bozeman, you are rewarded with stunning mountain views of the surrounding area. While it is one of the fanciest hotels in the area, is also Montana fancy with its rugged, yet comfortable, modern style.

You can relax in the rooftop pool, enjoy a delicious cocktail at the Sky Shed (We love the cocktails here!), listen to some music at Tune Up or treat yourself to a delicious meal at Fielding’s without even leaving the hotel. This hotel has it all!

While I haven’t stayed in this hotel personally, I have heard rave reviews of its comfortable rooms and friendly service.

It is on the pricey side but it is worth it!

Element

Element is another fantastic option for a hotel in downtown Bozeman. It is about the same price as The Armory, but a little less pretentious and a little more casual.

It is a great hotel if you are looking for amazing amenities like an indoor pool, on-site parking, breakfast, and more. This is also an extended stay hotel meaning you can book rooms with a fully-equipped kitchen. This makes it one of the best family friendly hotels in Bozeman.

RSVP Hotel

If you are looking for a stylish hotel in a fantastic location, RSVP Hotel should be on your list. This boutique hotel is one of a kind. It used to be an old motel and the new owners completely gutted it and created a beautifully decorated unique place to stay in Bozeman.

In addition to the beautiful rooms, the Farmer’s Daughters Cafe and Eatery is a tasty and healthy restaurant right on site where you can enjoy farm-to-table sandwiches, salads and tasty breakfast.

Located in the up and coming Midtown Bozeman, you aren’t right downtown, but still within walking distance to shops and restaurants on Main Street.

There are more and more restaurants opening on 7th as well and the Elm music venue is right next door. In the summer months there is even an outdoor pool to enjoy!

Bonus: There is free parking right at the hotel!

SpringHill Suites

If you are specifically looking for kid friendly hotels in Bozeman, SpringHill Suites would be a good option for your family. This Marriott hotel is located in the North part of Bozeman with easy access to the airport and Bridger mountains.

If you are coming to Bozeman to ski at Bridger Bowl, this is a fantastic option. We didn’t get to stay there, but my husband hosted a meeting there regularly. It was always a beautiful hotel to enter.

The rooms are spacious with a cozy cabin feel. The kids will love splashing around in the indoor pool while you relax in the hot tub. Breakfast is also included in your stay.

The negatives to staying at SpringHill Suites is that the location is not convenient for walking to restaurants and parking is $15 a day. It is still cheaper than staying downtown, though. If you don’t mind driving everywhere, this is still one of the coziest places to stay in Bozeman, MT.

Vacation Rental In North Bozeman

a view of Bozeman at sunset from Peets Hill

I did want to provide a few vacation rentals for people that either want more space than a hotel can give, are traveling in a larger group or want the comfort of staying in a home rather than a hotel.

This first vacation rental is where to stay in Bozeman if you are planning on skiing at Bridger Bowl or want space to spread out.

In addition to the close proximity to the ski hill or hiking trails, it is also right on Bridger Creek golf course. If you are visiting in the winter, this golf course transforms into cross country ski trails, making it ski in, ski out for nordic skiing. It’s also pet friendly!

Check out this home if you want a great location and plenty of space.

Bozeman Vacation Rental With Easy Access To Big Sky

Boy on skis at Big Sky Resort

This vacation rental is in a perfect location if you want to be between Big Sky and Bozeman. This spacious 3-bedroom house is set up nicely for a large family or a couple of small families to share.

Book this home near Four Corners if you will be skiing in Big Sky but still want to enjoy the shopping and restaurants that Bozeman has to offer.

Gallatin River Lodge

Lastly is a beautiful lodge that will feel like you are out in the middle of the country, but really is quite conveniently located to Bozeman, Belgrade and Big Sky. The Gallatin River Lodge is a stunning lodge has the Western vibes you are looking for in a Bozeman hotel in a quiet setting.

This lodge is for folks that want to be close enough to things to do, but feel like they are out in nature. There is a restaurant that is open for dinner, which is convenient, but I’ve never eaten there before, so I can’t speak to the quality. I’ve heard it’s good.

For a beautiful setting in a really great location, you can’t beat the Gallatin River Lodge.
