With five villages and so many options for places to stay, it can be tough to figure out which is the best town to stay in Cinque Terre. I totally get it. It’s overwhelming! I felt the same way when I was planning my vacation.

When I look for places to stay in any location, I search for hotels and apartments that give me the best value for what you get. I want some place nice that isn’t too expensive. Since I also travel with my kids, I look for hotels that fit families.

That is what I’m good at finding, so that’s what you will see below in my hotel recommendations.

How Many Days Do You Need For Cinque Terre?

If you’re wondering how long to stay in Cinque Terre, in my opinion, you should stay for at least three days.

That gives you time to explore all five villages without feeling rushed. You’ll be able to hike between towns, take in the coastal views, enjoy leisurely meals, and still leave room for some beach time or just wandering the charming streets.

A lot of people visit Cinque Terre on a day trip, but I wouldn’t recommend it. You’ll spend more time hopping between trains than actually experiencing the magic of the towns.

But if one day is all you have, you can still enjoy a glimpse of the beauty. Here’s how I’d spend a Cinque Terre day trip.

If you can stay longer, this 3-day itinerary is the perfect way to balance hiking, sightseeing, and relaxing.

Where To Stay When Visiting Cinque Terre By Town

Now let’s get to the recommendations for where to stay in Cinque Terre with children. I’ve broken it down by village with a short intro on what the town offeres visitors and some recommendations for specific places to stay.

Each option is based on highly-rated reviews and fits the criteria I mentioned above including: great location, family-friendly amenities, and solid value.

Monterosso – Top Town To Stay In Cinque Terre With Young Kids

Monterosso is the largest of the five villages and hands down the best place to stay in Cinque Terre with children, especially if you have young kids.

Families love it here because it’s flatter and easy to get around. You won’t need to haul luggage or strollers up endless stairs.

It’s also the only town with a large, sandy beach. That alone makes it a winner for kids who want to swim and parents who want to relax.

The downside is that Monterosso is, unfortunately, a bit pricier than the other villages. For the comfort and convenience, many families say it’s worth every euro.

Here are some highly-rated spots to check out!

Marty&Olly Luxury Garden Apt

If you’re looking for a spacious, beautifully updated place that works well for families, Marty&Olly Luxury Garden Apt checks a lot of boxes.

• Location: Just a 15-minute easy walk from the train station with no major uphill climbs and only 10 minutes to the beach and restaurants. Super convenient.
• Views: While you won’t get sweeping sea views here, the garden and terrace offer a lovely, peaceful setting.
• Room Layout: Great for families with two bedrooms. A king in one, a twin in the other, and a fold-out sofa in the living room. They even offer a free crib on request.
• Extras: No breakfast included, but guests rave about the thoughtful amenities. Expect things like wine or champagne, chocolates or cookies, and a fully stocked kitchen with olive oil and spices. It truly feels like a home away from home.
• Kid-Friendly Features: The washer is a huge bonus for sandy clothes and swimsuits, and on-site parking which is rare in Cinque Terre and available for €18 per night.
• Wi-Fi: Technically rated a bit low, but reviewers didn’t seem to mind or mention any major issues.
• Overall Vibe: The apartment is modern, tastefully decorated, and air-conditioned. It’s priced on the higher side, but the comfort and amenities make it feel worth it.
• Reviews: A glowing 8.7 on Booking and 9.0 on Agoda with consistently positive feedback.

Scimiscià 2-Bedroom Apartment

Scimiscià is another fantastic option for families visiting Monterosso. It’s slightly closer to the beach and train station than Marty&Olly and just a touch more affordable. Although still slightly on the pricier side.

• Location: Close to both the beach and train station, making it super convenient for exploring and relaxing.
• Room Layout: Perfect for larger families. One bedroom has a double bed, the second has a bunk bed, and there’s a sofa bed in the living area. A portable crib is available upon request.
• Extras: Guests love the thoughtful touches like complimentary snacks, tea, coffee, sugar, salt, oil, and other essentials are stocked in the kitchen.
• Kid-Friendly Features: The setup is great for kids, especially with the bunk beds and the washer which is helpful for beach days.
• Wi-Fi: Excellent connection; no complaints here!
• Eco-Friendly: The apartment is clean, spacious, and environmentally conscious, which is a nice bonus.
• Negatives:
  • The price is still on the higher end, although fair for the space and location.
  • You’ll need to climb quite a few stairs to reach the apartment. Something to keep in mind if you’re traveling with strollers or heavy luggage.
  • A few guests mentioned that using the washer can trip the circuit breaker, so you may need to space out showers and laundry.
• Reviews: Rated 8.1 on Booking and 8.6 on Agoda with lots of praise for cleanliness, location, and family-friendly setup.

Mediterranean Luxurious Apartment

If you’re okay with a one-bedroom setup, Mediterranean Luxurious Apartment might be one of the best valued stays in town. Clean, cozy, and beautifully decorated, and in a fantastic location.

• Location: Excellent spot in Monterosso that is quiet, central, and convenient for getting around.
• Room Layout:
  • One bedroom with a full bed and sofa bed.
  • Living room with two individual twin sofa beds. Perfect for kids who prefer their own space. I would spend extra money for no fighting at night!
• Kid-Friendly Features: Games for children, thoughtful touches like shower gel and kitchen staples, and even local travel tips provided by the host.
• Extras:
  • Soundproof apartment for restful nights and a huge plus when traveling with little kids.
  • Nicely stocked with coffee, toiletries, and essentials for cooking.
  • Private nearby parking available for €18 per night.
• Value: A solid option in Monterosso if you’re looking for comfort and location without breaking the bank.
• Reviews: Rated 9.3 on Booking.com and 9.5 on Agoda with glowing praise for the friendly, professional host and overall comfort.

Best Places To Stay In Vernazza

Vernazza is full of charm and postcard-worthy views. It’s another one of the best spots to stay in Cinque Terre with kids in my opinion. 

It has a central location which makes it perfect for exploring all five villages.

Families will love the small marina and beach where kids can splash around, and parents can soak in the vibrant colors and relaxed vibe.

Santa Marta Rooms – Vernazza 

Santa Marta Rooms is a top pick for families looking to stay in the heart of Vernazza. Just a 2-minute walk from the beach, this spot offers comfort, convenience, and amazing views.

• Proximity to the train station: Just a short walk from Vernazza’s train station, making it easy to arrive and explore without hassle.
• Location in town: In the center of Vernazza and only 2 minutes to the beach. Surrounded by shops, restaurants, and village life.
• Views: Outdoor terrace with beautiful views of the mountains and the colorful village buildings.
• Room layout and bed setup for families: Two separate bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed. Great setup for families with older kids or two adults traveling with children.
• Overall value for the price: Well-priced for the prime location and size. Not the cheapest, but the views, space, and comfort make it a worthwhile pick.
• Breakfast included?: No breakfast or kitchen. Plan for eating all your meals at cafés and restaurants.
• Kid-friendly features and amenities: Spacious, clean, and quiet with soundproof windows. Sadly no kitchen or washer, but the central location and terrace are very nice.
• Wi-Fi quality: Generally strong Wi-Fi. A few guests mentioned it could be slightly better, but it’s reliable for most needs.
• Reviews: Rated 9.1 on Booking.com and 9.1 on Agoda. Guests consistently praise the cleanliness, comfort, and wonderful host. The shower gets rave reviews, too!
• Things to note: There are steep stairs to reach the property which is very common in Cinque Terre, but something to keep in mind if traveling with little ones or heavy bags.

La Ripa Camere Vernazza – Stradivari Luxury Apartment

La Ripa Camere Vernazza is stylish, modern apartment is perfect for couples or small families looking to stay in the heart of Vernazza with comfort.

• Proximity to the train station: Just a short walk from the Vernazza train station, easy for arrival and day trips to the other villages.
• Location in town: Unbeatable location in the heart of Vernazza. You’ll be steps away from restaurants, shops, and the harbor.
• Views: No scenic views or balcony, but at least you’re in the middle of the village buzz with charming surroundings.
• Room layout and bed setup for families: One bedroom with a full bed and a sofa bed in the living room. It is best suited for smaller families or those with one child.
• Overall value for the price: Well-priced considering the prime location and stylish design. Great value for couples or small families.
• Breakfast included?: No breakfast, but you’re within walking distance of many great cafés and bakeries.
• Kid-friendly features and amenities: The space is clean, comfortable, and quiet at night. Not ideal for very young kids due to the stairs, but great for older kids.
• Wi-Fi quality: Some guests mentioned occasional trouble with the Wi-Fi. Just something to be aware of if internet access is essential.
• Reviews: Guests love how spotless and beautifully decorated it is. Rated 8.9 on Booking.com and 9.3 on Agoda. The host is very helpful, even offering to carry luggage!
• Things to note: Like most accommodations in Cinque Terre, you’ll need to climb stairs to access the apartment. The A/C works well, though it may be a little loud.

La Polena Camere Vernazza – Visconti Apartment

If you’re visiting Cinque Terre with kids and want to stay in Vernazza, La Polena Camere Vernazza is one of the best options around, especially for families. It’s beachy, bright, and beautifully located.

• Proximity to the train station: Just a short walk from the Vernazza train station for stress-free arrivals and departures.
• Location in town: Right in the heart of Vernazza, with easy access to the harbor, restaurants, and shops.
• Views: Only a small view, but it’s stunning and worth peeking out the window for!
• Room layout and bed setup for families: One queen bed plus a trundle bed which is ideal for a family of four.
• Overall value for the price: Excellent value for families. Clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed.
• Breakfast included?: No breakfast included, only the nearby cafés for breakfast.
• Kid-friendly features and amenities: 10/10 rating from families! The trundle bed is perfect for kids. Friendly host, great vibes, and everything you need for a family stay.
• Wi-Fi quality: 10/10! Strong, reliable connection throughout your stay.
• Reviews: Rated 9.2 overall on Booking.com and 9.4 on Agoda, with glowing reviews from families. Guests consistently praise the warm host and family-friendly setup.
• Things to note: The apartment is up a staircase which is common in Vernazza. Air conditioning is available, though not the strongest which is fine for most travelers.

Riomaggiore – Top Places To Stay With Kids

Riomaggiore is one of the most scenic villages in Cinque Terre, especially at sunset. With its colorful cliffside homes and coastal views, it’s an unforgettable place to end your day.

If you’re wondering where to stay in Cinque Terre, Riomaggiore is a fantastic choice. Accommodations here tend to be more affordable than in other villages, too.

There are more stairs to climb in Riomaggiore, so if you are hauling a lot of luggage or have very young kids, it might not be the best option for you. Although it is probably my favorite village of the 5!

We stayed in Riomaggiore and loved every moment. Relaxing on our outdoor patio as the sun dipped below the horizon and wandering the charming, winding streets was a highlight.

Casa Lorenza

Casa Lorenza is where we stayed during our time in Cinque Terre and it was perfect for us!

Perched high on the hill in Riomaggiore, this one-bedroom apartment offers some of the best views around. Our private terrace looked out over the sea and town. I mean look at that view! The sunsets here were truly magical.

• Proximity to the train station: It’s a bit of a climb from the station, but instead of stairs, there’s a winding road that makes it much easier. We missed that detail when we first arrived and took the long staircase. Don’t make our mistake!
• Location within the town: Set above the hustle and bustle, it’s peaceful, scenic, and perfect for relaxing after a busy day.
• Views: Unbeatable! Sea views, town views, and sunsets you’ll never forget.
• Room layout and bed setup: One queen bed and a large pull-out sofa, great for families.
• Overall value for price: Excellent. One of the best value stays we found in Cinque Terre.
• Breakfast included: Yes! The host brings fresh croissants, yogurt, and fruit every morning. A real treat.
• Kid-friendly features: Daily cleaning service and a quiet location for better sleep.
• Wi-Fi quality: Good inside the apartment, but it doesn’t reach the terrace.
• Reviews: Rated an impressive 9.8 on Booking.com and 9.9 on Agoda. I can personally vouch for it. Casa Lorenza is a real gem.

Terrazza Meraviglia

If you’re looking for an affordable stay in Riomaggiore with an unforgettable outdoor space, this one’s a winner. Terrazza Meraviglia lives up to its name with one of the best terraces around, perfect for enjoying a meal or lounging in the sun.

• Proximity to the train station: Excellent location for Riomaggiore. Convenient and central.
• Location within the town: Right in the heart of it all, but still offers a peaceful spot to unwind.
• Views: Terrace views of Riomaggiore’s iconic buildings. The views aren’t quite as sweeping as Casa Lorenza, but you still get those charming, colorful buildings that make Riomaggiore so special.
• Room layout and bed setup: One queen bed in the bedroom and a queen-sized pull-out sofa. Ideal for small families.
• Overall value for price: Fantastic value, especially with the terrace and thoughtful amenities.
• Breakfast included: No, but the host stocks the place with goodies and kitchen essentials.
• Kid-friendly features: Spacious, clean, and equipped with a washing machine. Huge plus for families.
• Wi-Fi quality: 10/10! Great for staying connected.
• Reviews: Rated 9.9 on Booking.com and 9.9 on Agoda, with guests raving about the comfort, host hospitality, and outdoor space.
• Access: Be prepared for stairs. This is Riomaggiore, after all!

Il Barcaiolo

If you’re visiting Cinque Terre on a budget but still want a beautiful, high-quality stay, Il Barcaiolo is a fantastic option. It may not have a large terrace like some other spots. However, it does feature a small balcony that overlooks the lively main street, which is perfect for a morning coffee and some people-watching.

• Proximity to the train station: Great central location; just a short walk from the station.
• Location within the town: Right on the main street. Close to shops, restaurants, and everything Riomaggiore has to offer.
• Views: Small balcony with views of the bustling street below.
• Room layout and bed setup: Two bedrooms with queen beds and a sofa bed in the living room. Spacious enough for families.
• Overall value for price: Excellent value for the space and location, especially in Cinque Terre.
• Breakfast included: No, but you’re close to cafés and markets.
• Kid-friendly features: Plenty of space, central location, and good layout for families.
• Wi-Fi quality: Not specifically mentioned, but with a 9.8 rating, it’s safe to assume it meets expectations.
• Reviews: Rated 9.8 on Booking.com and 9.8 on Agoda, with high marks for cleanliness, comfort, and location.
• Access: Some stairs to reach the apartment, which is again is typical.

Where To Stay In The Popular Manarola

Manarola might be small, but it leaves a big impression. Known for its postcard-perfect viewpoint, this village is one of the most photographed spots in all of Cinque Terre. 

If you’re searching for scenic, charming places to stay when visiting Cinque Terre, Manarola offers a peaceful atmosphere and magical sunsets, making it an unforgettable choice for your family trip to Italy.

I unfortunately had trouble finding many high quality places to stay in Manarola for families, so I only have one recommendation below.

If you are really wanting to stay near Manarola, Riomaggiore, in my opinion, has better options at a better price and it is only one train stop away.

CA’ DE FRANCU – Airbnb

This charming Airbnb in Manarola offers one of the best panoramic views in town. From the balcony, you’ll get an incredible look at the colorful village below and the glittering sea beyond.

• Proximity to the train station: Just a short walk from the Manarola train station, making it easy to access even with luggage in tow.
• Location in the village: Perched above the town for those sweeping views that are worth the climb.
• Views: Spectacular sea and village views from a private balcony.
• Room layout and bed setup: One bedroom with a double bed and a pull-out sofa in the living area.
• Overall value for price: Excellent value for such a scenic and well-kept apartment.
• Breakfast included: No breakfast, but the kitchen allows for simple meals.
• Kid-friendly features: No specific kid-friendly amenities, but the space is clean, cozy, and quiet. Perfect for families with older children.
• Wi-Fi quality: Strong and reliable, based on guest reviews.
• Guest ratings: 4.96 out of 5 on Airbnb.com with rave reviews about the host’s responsiveness and hospitality.
• Things to note: You will need to climb several steps to reach the apartment. Something to consider if you’re traveling with heavy bags or little ones.

Corniglia – Quietest Town To Stay In Cinque Terre With Kids

Corniglia is a wonderful base if you’re looking to escape the crowds and enjoy a quieter side of Cinque Terre.

Perched high on the cliffs, it’s the least visited of the five villages, mainly because it takes a little extra effort to reach. But in my opinion, that’s exactly what makes it so special.

With its laid-back vibe, authentic feel, and stunning views over the sea, Corniglia quickly became one of my favorite spots in Cinque Terre.

Villa Lardarina

If you’re traveling to Corniglia with kids or a bigger group, Villa Lardarina is a fantastic pick. It offers lots of space, comfort, and one of the best views!

• Proximity to the train station: About a 10–15 minute walk from the station. Keep in mind, Corniglia is known for its stairs!
• Location within the town: Tucked away in a peaceful part of Corniglia, but still close to restaurants and the village center.
• Views: A private terrace with sweeping views of the sea. It is perfect for outdoor dining and relaxing.
• Room layout and bed setup: There are two bedrooms. One has a queen bed, the other with two twins and a bunk bed. There’s also a sofa bed in the living room, making this great for larger families.
• Overall value for the price: A solid and affordable choice for those needing space; excellent value when split among a group.
• Breakfast included: No, but the fully equipped kitchen makes meal prep easy.
• Kid-friendly features and amenities: Lots of beds, outdoor space, and a quiet setting.
• Wi-Fi quality: Strong and reliable.
• Guest reviews and rating: Rated 9.0 on Booking.com and 8.8 on Agoda with many guests praising the views, space, and peaceful atmosphere.
• Bonus: Air conditioning and plenty of patio furniture for soaking up the sunset!

La Coccinelle

La Coccinelle is a cozy and well-equipped apartment in Corniglia is perfect for small families looking for charm, views, and convenience.

• Proximity to the train station: About a 10–15 minute walk from Corniglia’s train station. And yes, some stairs are involved or you can walk the road.
• Location within the town: Centrally located with easy access to the village and incredible views from the property.
• Views: Stunning views of the sea and surrounding cliffs. This is one of the most praised features in reviews.
• Room layout and bed setup: One bedroom with a queen bed and sofa bed, plus an additional sofa bed in the living room. Perfect for families or groups of four.
• Overall value for the price: Solid mid-range option for Corniglia with lots of amenities and great views.
• Breakfast included: Available for an additional fee.
• Kid-friendly features and amenities: Washing machine, comfy beds, and a well-equipped kitchen for easy family meals. Plus, parking available. A rare find in Cinque Terre!
• Wi-Fi quality: Not specifically mentioned, but no complaints noted in the reviews.
• Guest reviews and rating: Rated 9.4 on Booking.com. Guests love the views, cleanliness, and friendly host.

Best Places To Stay When Visiting Cinque Terre: Final Thoughts

There’s truly no wrong town to stay in when choosing where to stay in Cinque Terre. Each of the five villages has its own charm and offers something special for every kind of traveler.

If your family loves the beach and wants easy access to the water, Monterosso al Mare is your best bet.

For postcard-perfect beauty and a lively atmosphere Vernazza is a great pick.

Looking to save a little and still soak up stunning views with easy boat access? Riomaggiore is calling your name.

Prefer something quieter and more off the beaten path? Then you’ll fall in love with the charm and authenticity of Corniglia.

No matter where you stay, you’ll experience the magic of Cinque Terre with its colorful towns, cliffside views, and unforgettable food. It’s a destination your family will never forget.

How I Find Great Accommodations

When I’m planning a trip, Booking.com is my go-to for finding great places to stay. I love how easy it is to filter by top-rated spots, family-friendly accommodations, sustainable stays, and more. It really helped narrow things down fast when I was looking for the best hotels in Cinque Terre.

I also check Agoda.com. Sometimes they list different properties or offer better deals, so it’s worth a quick comparison. I also like to make sure the reviews match. If one of the platform’s reviews are much lower, it makes me a little suspicious.

And of course, there’s Airbnb. I always take a look to see if there’s a great apartment or house at a decent price. For short trips, I tend to book a hotel. But if I’m staying a week or longer, Airbnb can be a solid option, especially if there’s a long-stay discount.

Between these three platforms, I can usually find something that checks all the boxes.
